Subregion - Southern Valleys
The Southern Valleys are located directly south of Wairau Valley and are known for clay based soils and cooler evening temperatures during the critical ripening period. Some of the oldest hillside Pinot Noir plantings in Marlborough are found in this sub region.
These high density plantings experience the perfect conditions for producing intense, unique and memorable Pinot Noir wines.
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
From two vineyards located in the Southern valleys, those being the Waihopai Valley and the Omaka Valley. From traditional Dijon clones, the fruit was hand harvested from the two sites in the cool of the morning. Held overnight in refrigeration and then processed the following day. Held cold and fermentation induced via natural and inoculated yeasts some 3-5 days later with an element of Whole Bunch fermentation used also. After fermentation finished the must was pressed and the wine aged in a selection of New and Older French oak barrels for almost 9 months before extended aging in tank and bottling.Tasting NoteFresh vanilla pod oak and cinnamon spice aromas with, truffle oil and earthy complexities.
