The Rapaura Springs 2017 Verdelho shows complexing aromas of flint and struck match with underlying Kaffir lime and yellow stone fruits, combined with notes of freshly cooked buttered popcorn. The palate is full and silky with lovely brae burn apple flavours and fresh stone fruits with an inherent acid structure that leads to a juicy mineral finish.

Our Springs Vineyard, is located in the Rapaura sub-region of Marlborough and is surrounded by crystal clear spring-fed waters. The fresh water springs, fed by underground aquifers, cools the roots of our vines to extend ripening and intensify flavours. The Springs Vineyard doesn’t require irrigation helping us save on water during the dry summer months.
Viticulture & Winemaking
The 2017 growing season in Marlborough was not without some challenges. Verdelho is thick skinned and its loose bunch structure meant little disease pressure in the vineyard. Picking decisions were made on flavour profiles and we’re pleased with the result. Fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed into tank for a short 24 hour settling time, before being racked into a selection of 1 year old and seasoned barrels where a combination of indigenous and cultured yeast were used for fermentation. Ferments were closely monitored and stopped when the sugar and acid was well balanced retaining the lovely fresh fruit sweetness. Weekly battonage undertaken until the winemakers felt the wine was balanced and well textured.
