VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
The 2018 growing season in Marlborough was not without some challenges. December we enjoyed perfect flowering conditions, January was one of the warmest on record, February delivered some rain and March was characterised by extended dry periods and high sunshine hours. Despite all this, the fruit ripened nicely on the vines, earlier than normal, and we had clean, ripe and intensely flavoured fruit come harvest in April.
Once pressed, the juice was fermented in a selection of French oak barriques and stainless steel to achieve a balance between toasty oak characters and fresh, ripe, fruit flavours. Partial malolactic fermentation (10%) has softened the wine and added extra weight and complexity to the palate.
Our Reserve wine captures and showcases some of the delicious Chardonnay flavours and aromas from Marlborough’s unique Southern Valleys sub-region.
Our Reserve Chardonnay is concentrated and delicious. Aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, nectarine and preserved lemons are complimented by attractive oak and butter. On the palate, it is full bodied with stone fruit and melon flavours combined with a toasty, sweet spice influence from French Oak maturation. Drinking beautifully on release it will continue to reward careful cellaring for 3-5 years.
This wine is versatile and would pair well to a wide range of poultry, pork and seafood dishes. Try with pan seared scallops or a roasted pork loin.
